چکیده

From the start of their studies students in condensed matter physics are exposed to ordered systems. These systems can be very simple and give insight into the physics of many materials. However it seems that much of what is learned in ordered systems cannot be brought to disordered systems. Instead new conceptual understandings much be reached will very different consquences. One of these is the absence of movement of charge carriers in strongly disordered systems. The reason for this has been coined Anderson Localization. In this paper ordered systems will be breifly reviewed moving on to a conceptual picture of localization. Then region between perfect order and strong disorder will be investegated using scaling theory. Then we will look into connecting these two regimes using scaling theory.

In the present paper, we calculate the effect of disorder on the density of states and localization of eigenstates of zigzag and armchair nano-ribbons. Both Anderson disorder model and quantom percolation are considered. The eigenstates of the disordered hamiltonian is calculated in a tight–binding approximation and the localization of eigenstates are characterized using the inverse participati...

Absence of Anderson localization of light in a random ensemble of point scatterers.

As discovered by Philip Anderson in 1958, strong disorder can block propagation of waves and lead to the localization of wavelike excitations in space. Anderson localization of light is particularly exciting in view of its possible applications for random lasing or quantum information processing. We show that, surprisingly, Anderson localization of light cannot be achieved in a random three-dim...

Experimental Observation of Two-Dimensional Anderson Localization with the Atomic Kicked Rotor.

Dimension 2 is expected to be the lower critical dimension for Anderson localization in a time-reversal-invariant disordered quantum system. Using an atomic quasiperiodic kicked rotor-equivalent to a two-dimensional Anderson-like model-we experimentally study Anderson localization in dimension 2 and we observe localized wave function dynamics. We also show that the localization length depends e...

Dynamic versus Anderson wavepacket localization

We address the interplay between two fundamentally different wavepacket localization mechanisms, namely resonant dynamic localization due to collapse of quasi-energy bands in periodic media and disorder-induced Anderson localization. Specifically, we consider light propagation in periodically curved waveguide arrays on-resonance and off-resonance, and show that inclusion of disorder leads to a ...

Random Schrödinger Operators: Universal Localization, Correlations, and Interactions

By many accounts, the quantum mechanics of disordered media had its origin in Anderson’s ground-breaking and Nobel Prize winning work in 1958 on what is now called Anderson localization. In mathematics, the quantum mechanical model studied by Anderson, now called the Anderson model, is at the center of the field of random Schrödinger operators. The mathematical analysis of the Anderson, and rel...
